Again Your hair upon my lips, again Your hands in my hands.Feelings fill the heart, and the body — desire;the unstoppable breath of love has joined us.
In the rhythm of passion the hearts are beating, two souls, as if one soul. The Earth is small: I — alone, and You — alone;this is our fantastic game of love.
The dark night has embraced our bodies;for us, in the sky, our star is blazing.I'm always with You, and You are mine,my Beautiful Lady, my Feeling.
About the poem
Love as Drama opens with hair on the lips, hands in hands, two hearts “in the rhythm of passion,” a star burning for two — “my beautiful Lady, my Feeling.” Then, without warning, “I was near — and suddenly I am not here,” and a hot tear on her cheek. The speaker promises to return “through other worlds” and carry her “into eternity in my arms,” and the first line comes back as the last. A ring closed around an absence; the whole drama of the section in five stanzas. That sudden break is the beginning of drama in the strict sense: an ideal scene discovers its conflict. The beloved remains luminous, but the poem no longer trusts passion to guarantee permanence. Beauty and fracture now occupy the same stanzaic space.
