Translation

Sadness

Feelings heavy as a stonefill up my present being. My ancient reason is bound in chains —society's shackles — and already forgotten.

I do not want to live the lifeI live already — this flamethat with time goes out and does not blaze, does not flare up into eternity, but burns away.

I'll give my soul a clean, free will, and free my body of human pain.I'll feel again the space and freedom, and never step in dirty water again.

About the poem

Feelings “heavy as stone,” a mind “shackled by society’s fetters.” The speaker refuses the life he is living — a flame that “fades with time instead of blazing” — and promises the soul “pure freedom,” the body release from human pain, and never again “a step into dirty water.” He will return to himself and “rise by the mind to the heavens.” The rebellion is Romantic in the old sense; the enemy, society, will return in Lost Fate and You — Society. The social language widens what might otherwise be private depression. The speaker’s sadness is not presented as purely internal; it is connected to constraint, expectation and a life that feels wrongly shaped. The promise to blaze becomes an act of self-definition against that pressure.
