Translation
Big Boy
A boy who looks out of the window,so piercingly, and so deeply, sees truths behind it,covered over by society's fear.
He looks, taking in with his eyesall that is left of Paradise, sorting the Good from the Evil, piercingly, deeply, and in silence.
The mouth is shut, the lips are dumb, but the boy's soul is sobbing,it moans, it aches, it hurts, it cries, but for now the boy keeps silent.
About the poem
The longest poem in Love as Drama. A boy at a window sees “the truths behind it,” his mouth shut while “the boy’s soul sobs.” Night calls him — “come, all the delights are ahead” — and the poem stops him: remember what you saw. Below, in the night city, a man lay not breathing; men and women passed by “lustfully” — “this is the truth of ‘grown-ups’”; the ambulance took the body into the dark, and the boy’s heart burst. “Cry, boy, cry! Tears are your doctor today… Would a strong one cry as you do?” No one hears him. “You are strong, boy, you are a soul — this is the first truth of your life.” Growing up as the discovery that crying is strength.
